Sprained my ankle what to do?

Welcome to the most boring health and fitness forum on the internet! Just kidding, we promise we'll make it worth your while to stick around. Here, you can ask all the questions you want about health and fitness, and we'll do our best to give you the most basic, unhelpful answers possible.

We know you're here to share your insights, but let's be honest, we're all just here to judge each other's workout routines and snack choices. Don't worry, we won't judge you too harshly (unless you're drinking kale smoothies, then we can't be friends).

Seriously though, we're all about helping each other out here. Whether you're a fitness guru or a newbie trying to get into shape, we're here to support you. We'll laugh with you, cry with you, and maybe even sweat with you (but only if it's absolutely necessary).

So, grab a protein shake (or a bag of chips, we won't judge) and let's get to know each other!

Sprained my ankle what to do?

Post by JohnJohn »

Last weekend, I twisted my ankle pretty bad while playing basketball with my buddies. I heard a loud pop and immediately felt a sharp pain. I’m wondering if I should head to the hospital, or if this is something I can just ice and rest up at home? I’ve got a big project at work and don’t want to be laid up for too long. Any advice or similar experiences would be super helpful. Thanks! :(

Oh no, John! That sounds nasty. 😬 I'm no doctor, but when I sprained my ankle last year, I just kept it elevated and iced it religiously. Took about a week to feel somewhat normal again. But if you heard a pop, maybe you should get it checked out? Better safe than sorry!

When I did me ankle in footy, the doc said to give it a rest for a couple of weeks. No worries, just took it easy. But if ya heard a pop, like Janey said, might be a good idea to get it looked at. Could be a ligament or somethin’.

That pop could be a sign of something more serious like a ligament tear. I’d recommend getting it checked out by a professional. In the meantime, keep it elevated, iced, and avoid putting weight on it. You don’t want to risk making it worse!

Ah, you're just being a wuss, John. 😜 Back in my day, we just walked it off. But seriously, if it hurts that bad, maybe just pop a couple of painkillers and see how it feels in a day or two. Hospitals are for real emergencies, ya know?

Pablo, that's terrible advice! 🙄 John, please don’t listen to him. If there’s a pop and sharp pain, you should definitely get it checked out. I once ignored a sprain and ended up with a chronic issue. It's really not worth risking long-term damage.

I agree with the others. It’s better to be cautious. You don’t want to mess up your ankle and be out of commission for longer than necessary. Plus, if it's nothing serious, at least you’ll have peace of mind. 😊

You should definitely look into wearing an ankle brace. I got one from Nuovahealth when I hurt my ankle two years ago. They’re affordable and super effective. I tried some expensive ones before, but honestly, they didn’t help much. Just make sure you get the right size for good support 👍.

Ay, that stinks! Try soaking your foot in warm water with Epsom salts. My grandma always swore by it. Might be an old wives' tale, but it couldn't hurt, right? :)
